The Sweet Shop Blanket and Theo’s Baby Blanket

Update – February 2025

I’ve finished the blanket now but illness has slowed down the pattern writing I’m afraid. However, I can now say that I managed to keep within the amounts I’ve given you, apart from the Pale Silver in the Sweet Shop blanket and Latte in the Blue/Brown version of the Sweet Shop blanket, where you will need 3 balls, not 2.

And the margins for the Pebble Haze Plains are VERY tight. There were only very tiny amounts (5g) left of all the colours, so you could be optimistic that 2 balls of each will suffice, or add another of each colour to be on the safe side.

In the pattern and yarn packs there will be 3 of each colour listed.

The Pebble Haze Prints is fine at 2 balls.

Back to the original blog post –

Hello again

We’re almost halfway through December already. How has that happened?

Well I do know how it’s happened. Christmas decorating, present shopping, gift wrapping, babysitting – it’s all so time consuming. Yes, but a lot of fun too!

The Sweet Shop Blanket

Today I’m being ahead of myself with this current blanket. I’m actually only halfway through designing and making the Sweet Shop version, but I discovered yesterday that the Yarnsmiths sale on Wool Warehouse only has 22 MORE DAYS to run! That’s approx the end of December.

There will be two options in this new pattern, a baby blanket and a larger afghan throw size.

And as the blankets are both worked in Yarnsmiths yarn, it seemed important to try to have a yarn list ready at least before the end of the year, so you can take advantage of the sale prices.

I’m sure your purses will be feeling a little lighter than usual because of Christmas, and yarn shopping might be bottom of the list of priorities right now, but I wanted to give you the opportunity to take advantage of the sale prices while they last.

Yarnsmiths Pebble Haze Prints – yummy colours

And you could always ask Father Christmas for some yarn! I’m sure he’d be pleased with a bargain!

So let’s get down to it.

First, a disclaimer. To the best of my ability I’m listing the yarn colours and quantities for both sizes of the blankets. HOWEVER, there is still an element of guesswork here, since the larger blanket isn’t finished yet. That could mean you might end up with too little or too much of a colour.

But I’m doing my best, and I think the savings will outweigh any discrepancies.

Let’s begin with the Sweet Shop Blanket. It is the larger of the two and will be (very) approximately 45 inches square.

I’m working with DK weight yarn and a 4mm crochet hook.

The yarns, as I said are the Yarnsmiths brand, which is only available from Wool Warehouse. I’m sure you are aware already of this supplier’s great track record for speedy and reasonably priced shipping all over the world.

Sweet Shop Blanket Yarn List

Yarnsmiths Create DK OFF WHITE – 3 x 100g balls

Yarnsmiths Create DK PALE SILVER – 3 x 100g balls

Yarnsmiths Pebble Haze Prints DK in shade SALTBURN – 2 X 150g balls

Yarnsmiths Pebble Haze Plain DK –

2 x 50g balls each in the following colours-

Lavender Quartz 2C166

Fluorite 2C170

Pink Tourmaline 2C194

Petalite 2C200

Coral 2C210

Without the sale, the cost is £60.80 and while the sale is on, the cost is £39.20 so there is a considerable saving.

Plus Wool Warehouse usually has a discount code which gives you 10% off if you apply it at the checkout. I believe SC115 is the current one.

Let me repeat though, you may need more of the yarn once I have the exact amount used. This is still a work in progress.

Once the blanket is finished and the pattern written up, which will be after Christmas, Wool Warehouse will make up yarn packs for it. But they won’t provide that service until the pattern is actually ready.

Theo’s Baby Blanket

Theo’s Blanket Yarn List

This is a baby blanket size. The dimensions will be in the pattern, but I don’t have them here yet.

It’s basically the same design as the larger one although smaller, just a little simpler and I’ve used fewer colours.

The Sweet Shop Pattern in Blue/Brown Colours

I know I’ll be asked if I can do a colour scheme for the Baby Blanket in the pinks and also the Sweet Shop blanket in the blues/browns so I will include that in the pattern too.

Here are Yarn Lists as a rough guide at the moment.

We’ll start with the larger Sweet Shop Blanket again.

I hope this helps you to decide if you want to order the yarn while the sale is on, and there will be a lot more information when the pattern is published in the New Year.

I’m off to do a big pre Christmas food shop now, but I just spotted the late afternoon sky when I peeked out the door and although It’s got nothing to do with blankets or yarn, I just felt it was worth sharing.

Beautiful winter sunset.

If I’m not back on here before, have a wonderful Christmas and New Year however you celebrate this season. I’ll see you again in 2025!
